Upwards of 20 youth turned out to the Brentford Boating Arch, in the Kew Bridge, on Wednesday evening, for the opening night of a summer-long water sports program sponsored by the Brentford Community Sports Trust.

Led by four coaches, Gurpal Sahota, Phil Robinson, Paul Hyman and Martin Casey, the group practiced basic techniques for canoeing and kayaking, including ways to keep safe on the water.

Developed by Brentford FC Community Sports Trust in cooperation with Ealing and Hounslow Councils, the program will run all summer long, with canoeing sessions for under 18s every Wednesday from 6:30pm to 8:30 pm.

In addition, adult sessions will also be held on Tuesdays, keeping the same times as those for youth.

Lee Doyle CEO of The Brentford FC Community Sports Trust said, "This project is an excellent example of the public, private and voluntary sector working together to create community sports opportunities using local natural resources."
