The Spider Defence League

Posted by Michael Edmondstone on Jun 30, 08 08:22 AM in

Since the weather started picking up a few weeks back there have been troops of spiders making their home inside Flamenco. The other day as I unhooked a saucepan from the wall, the cover for two beefy bugs was blown and they panicked down their silk threads before hurrying into a dark corner.

Gunnersbury plans afoot

Posted by Lucy Proctor on Jun 24, 08 12:16 PM in Local Authority

Gunnersbury HouseGunnersbury Park is in line for a new lease of life after years of neglect - and local people are to decide how.

Nearby residents and park users say the it has been left to rot with buildings falling into disrepair but have been fearful of development in case the park is turned over to a hotel company or private investors.

Snail Sanctuary

snail.jpgSo how come we're allowed to live for free on this island- Lot's Ait- in the Thames, when other boat folk have to fork out sometimes hundreds a week to be able to enjoy their chosen lifestyle? There are moorings all around London, on the river and canals, and all of them require constant money. Boats are allowed to moor for free on parts of the canal system for up to two weeks before having to move on. But why is Brentford a haven for free living?

John BarnesFootball legend John Barnes paid a visit to Gunnersbury Park as it came alive to the sounds of racket, bat and ball on Sunday during a major festival of sport.

The Sport Jam event, organised by Brentford FC Community Sports Trust in partnership with Access Sport and Hounslow and Ealing councils, was held to coincide with the anniversaries of the London Olympics of 1908 and 1948.

Wading to the Boat

Posted by Michael Edmondstone on Jun 23, 08 11:21 AM in Bloggers

Sunday morning, just as the sky was lightening, Carlos' voice woke me. He hadn't been to Flamenco on Saturday and now he was coming home. I was dazed from sleep and heard only confusion. His shouting was getting louder and there were other voices shouting back.

Ships ahoy! for historic boatbuilder

norman-boat.jpgHe was last seen on TV show Richard and Judy hoisting his home-made Viking longboat over the roof of his Isleworth home.

Now David Jones is back, but this time he has converted his craft into a Norman ship and has a point to prove.

River Rage

Carlos sent me a fuming letter, full of raging accusations that I'm a COWARD and a LIAR. He's seething about the tender and while I've been sitting pretty in a hospital bed he's been having to wait for the tide to go down so that he can cross home, where I guess he's festering in fury.
