Sports jamming at Gunnersbury

John BarnesFootball legend John Barnes paid a visit to Gunnersbury Park as it came alive to the sounds of racket, bat and ball on Sunday during a major festival of sport.

The Sport Jam event, organised by Brentford FC Community Sports Trust in partnership with Access Sport and Hounslow and Ealing councils, was held to coincide with the anniversaries of the London Olympics of 1908 and 1948.

Young visitors were given the chance to take part in a multitude of sports, including kayaking, rugby, netball, football, cycling, trampolining, skateboarding, tennis, boxing, cricket, athletics, hockey and basketball.

There were also classes in climbing, street dance, yoga classes and boxercise, while the trust organised a football competition.

Sports Jam is the first event of its kind in the area and its organisers hope it will become an annual event in West London's summer calendar.
