Wading to the Boat

Posted by Michael Edmondstone on Jun 23, 08 11:21 AM in Bloggers

Sunday morning, just as the sky was lightening, Carlos' voice woke me. He hadn't been to Flamenco on Saturday and now he was coming home. I was dazed from sleep and heard only confusion. His shouting was getting louder and there were other voices shouting back.

boatmannew3.jpgI get out of bed and climb up the ladder from Flamenco to the side of the mooring and walk to the steps that lead up to the island. The tide was in and that was why Carlos was shouting. He needed to find a way to get across. He was standing on the river bank with some friends and was shouting at Jim, half way across from the bank to the island.

Someone had to and Jim had taken it upon himself to volunteer to do the wading. The tide was only just up. The group had obviously misjudged the tide and come about half an hour too late. And as there's no dinghy, JIm was chest deep in the Thames, wading over to untie Dan's yacht so that he could row to land and pick up the rest of the party.

We'd like to hear from you.
