While the hedonists of the King's Road were preoccupied with the swinging sixties, a grim orgy of killing was taking place just a few kilometres to the west.
A serial killer obsessed with prostitutes murdered six, possibly eight, young women between 1964 and 1965, dumping their naked and mutilated bodies on the banks of the River Thames. His heinous acts, with victims from Brentford and Chiswick, earned him the moniker Jack the Stripper - but he was never caught.
Now the dormant investigation has been given a boost after the name of a notorious Welsh double-child murderer was put in the frame for the killings.
Everything seems to have simmered down for this murky, muggy August. No problems, no action, just money-making, eating, sleeping and making Flamenco fresher.
A Brentford subsea engineer and flying lecturer recently released his first novel to great reviews.
Lorne Gifford wrote the 'true to life action thriller', The Andaman Express, to encourage more people to enter the profession of engineering.

Clearing open days at university this weekend
Thames Valley University is holding two open days this weekend to mark the start of clearing.
They take place on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th August between 11am - 3pm at the Mary's Road site in Ealing, where you can find out about courses taught at the Brentford and Ealing campuses.
These are the ideal opportunity to find out about the undergraduate courses that are currently available through clearing, as well as see the campus and find out about student support, finance and accommodation.
I was walking home along Brentford high-street late last night, after having watched the new Batman film and a young lady approached me, asking if I've, "Got a spare cigarette, darlin'". She was clutching something to her face- at first it looked like a phone.
Let's hope smiles like these are a common site around the borough as students collect their A-level results.
Visit www.hounslowchronicle.co.uk to see how your school did, read about special successes and view pictures.
And use our exam results message board to send congratulations, tell us about your results or comment on your school's performance

A would-be peacemaker was left with a fractured skull after trying to break up a fight in a Brentford pub.
The 33-year-old man was hit from behind following the brawl at the Rose and Crown pub, in London Road, last Saturday.
He was knocked unconscious at around 10.30pm and later taken to hospital for treatment.
His attacker is a slim, white or mixed race man, aged between 18 and 25 years, with short dark hair, who wore a black jacket which may have white trim around the hood.
Anyone with information about any of the crimes above should call Hounslow CID on 020 8247 6160 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
Have been unable to write due to commitments of bringing home pay-cheques and, unfortunately, work on Flamenco's been stunted by the same beast. But, for what it's worth, she's beginning to look fresh.
