Brentford dog owner's appeal to help find missing Freddie
A distraught pet owner whose dog disappeared after being sucked into the sluice gates at Brentford Lock has issued a desperate appeal for information.
Gareth Evans' 11-month-old white Samoyed Freddie is still missing after falling into the Grand Union Canal on Sunday, January 25.
Gareth, 33, of Westbury Place, is clinging onto the faintest of hopes that his beloved pet will be found alive.
"I'm desperate to find him," he said. "There's a one per cent chance he could've survived it. But even if we just find his body, I want to know what happened to him."
It is believed Freddie was sucked under by an open sluice gate which channels water into the River Brent when the water levels rise.
The gate was eventually closed but Freddie was nowhere to be found and subsequent searches have confirmed he was probably swept into the river.
Anyone with information about Freddie, who was wearing a red collar and has a distinctive stripe on his nose, should call Gareth on 07717 817529 or Jenny Laurens on 07725 032654.
