Gunnersbury Park consultation results revealed

The survey which was posted to 70,000 households within a two mile radius of the park, asked if the resident "would be prepared to see a strip of land measuring 5.6 acres along the boundary of Gunnersbury Park with Lionel Road North, sold or leased for housing development..."

The alternative offered to the resident was to keep things as they are and see a further decline in the 22 listed buildings.

A huge 49.8 per cent of respondents said they strongly agreed or agreed with the development proposal and 40.8 per cent said they strongly disagreed or disagreed. 10 per cent said they were neutral.

However Campaigner, Bela Chuna believes this result was engineered by using a biased questionnaire and distributing it to such a wide area.

"The questionnaire was sent to people living two miles away from the park, many of whom do not use it or very infrequently.

"So of course when faced with a question asking would you rather see a housing estate built on the park or see it fall into dereliction, these people are going to go for the development.

"The way it was phrased was so blatantly designed to get this response."

The results show that around 15 per cent of the respondents never or rarely used the park and almost 30 per cent said they used Ealing's Walpole park more often or as frequently as Gunnersbury.

"It would be interesting to see the postal codes of the people who voted in favour of the development and how often they use the park," said Bela.

"It's a complete and utter sham."

English Heritage has named Gunnersbury Park as one of the top 12 "at risk" properties in England, due to the significant investment needed urgently to stabilise and ultimately repair the buildings.

The Gunnersbury Park Joint Advisory Panel are to meet at the small mansion in Gunnersbury Park at 7pm, on Monday, November 30, to discuss the results of the consultation.
