Brentford boozer stays open but lanlord moves on
The Landlord of popular Brentford boozer the magpie and crown is forced to move out as rent negotiations break down - however the doors stay open.
Stephen Bolton has confirmed that his last offer was rejected by owners, the Wellington Pub Company, after he declared himself unable to meet demands for a 15 per cent rent increase.
The 43 year old's lease will come to an end on January 11, only a week after he celebrated his 14th year managing the Brentford High Street pub.
"I have put 14 years of work into the place so of course I am very sad," said Stephen.
"At the end of the day an agreement couldn't be reached so I am moving out.
"I think it's a combination of greediness and the times, they did come down on the rent quite a bit, but not enough for what we wanted."
The Freeholders have put an end to rumours that the pub is closing for good, with a spokeswoman saying: "It will be changing hands and we have got someone in line to take it on.
"The lease officially finished last year and we were trying to negotiate it through with Mr Bolton but we were not able to."
The Wellington Pub Company which owns approximately 850 pubs across the UK refused to comment on Mr. Bolton's claim they are "greedy".
Mr Bolton is inviting locals down to see him off over the weekend as he spends his last days working in the pub.
