Boat Race Protester Banned From Olympic Route

THE PROTESTER who disrupted the University Boat Race has been banned from going near the Olympic torch route.

Trenton Oldfield, 35, was rescued by Chiswick RNLI after he swam into the middle of the Thames near the Chiswick Eyot during the Oxford-Cambridge clash on April 7.

He appeared at Feltham Magistrates' Court on Monday (April 23), charged with causing a public nuisance.

He was released on bail with restrictions preventing him from entering the City of Westminster on May 9 for the state opening of Parliament and forbidding him from entering the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead until May 23, when he is due at Isleworth Crown Court.

Another bail condition bans Oldfield from being within 100m of the Olympic torch route roads.

The lifeboat volunteer group said thanks to the disruption from Oldfield and an Oxford rower collapsing, it was their most challenging boat race ever.
