Hospital Rolls Out Brand New Diabetes Project

Posted by Lima Curtis on Apr 24, 12 02:52 PM in Health

A pioneering project to protect diabetic patients from leg amputations and death has been rolled out, writes George Lindsay-Watson.

Diabetic patients at West Middlesex University Hospital in Twickenham Road are having their feet checked for ulcers, a sign of poor blood flow.

Mortality is also almost doubled for diabetic patients with an ulcer, meaning checking is vital.

The scheme, which will run until 2013, aims to encourage regular checking and to educate diabetic people and their carers.
